DR PEDRO BERJANO MD PHD
Pedro Berjano, born in Granada, Spain, graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Granada (Spain). He specialized in Family Medicine in Granada (Spain), and in Orthopedics and Traumatology in Madrid (Spain). He obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Salamanca (Spain) and is authorized to practice his specialty in Switzerland. In 2016, he received the Italian Scientific Qualification as an Associate Professor.
Since 2003, he has been working in Italy, and since 2013, he has held the position of Director of the IV Division of Spinal Surgery - GSpine4 at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi Sant’Ambrogio in Milan. He has held University teaching appointments for the Master's program in Microneurosurgery at the University of Turin and for the Orthopedics specialty schools at the Universities of Milan and Genoa, currently ongoing.
In 2020, he was elected Chairman of the Board of AOSpine for Europe and South Africa, a position he's still serving at. He has authored over 190 scientific articles in journals with Impact Factor, mainly in the field of minimally invasive spinal surgery and surgery for scoliosis and spinal deformities. His articles have received more than 3000 citations.
Dr Berjano has extensive experience in complex spine surgery, including scoliosis, adult spine deformity and minimally invasive anterior spine surgery. He trained in ASC with Dr Darryl Antonacci in the USA, and introduced Anterior Scoliosis Correction (ASC) in his clinical practice in 2018, using the technique as described by Drs Antonacci, Betz and Cuddihy.
